SOMMERS - Frank S. Age 79, of the Town of Tonawanda and formerly of the City of Tonawanda, November 25, 2012, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, husband of 57 years of Theresa E. (nee Ganster) Sommers; father of Sandra (Ronald) Butticci, Steven Sommers, Andrew (Ann) Sommers, Theresa (Carl) Bogdan, Julie (John) Lunghino and Margaret (James) Higgins; grandfather of Eric, Lindsay, Crosby, Danielle, Kevin, Keith, Katelyn, Chelsie, Paige, Anthony and Cameron; great-grandfather of Ani and Emma; son of the late John and Laura Sommers; brother of the late Josephine, Harry, Leo, Leonard and Irene; brother-in-law of Rosemary (Dr. Dennis) Heimbach, Edward (Carol) Ganster and the late Dorothy (late Philip) Krueger; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at JOHN O. ROTH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 25 William St. (between Morgan and Broad Sts) in Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 AM in St. Amelia R.C. Church, 2999 Eggert Rd, in the Town of Tonawanda. Friends invited. "Captain Frank" was a 1952 graduate of Tonawanda High School where he excelled in Basketball. He was voted Captain of the Niagara Frontier All Star Basketball Team in 1952. He was also a US Army veteran serving during the Korean war. Frank owned and operated Frank's Barber Shop on Young Street in Tonawanda for 30 years. He was also employed by Consolidated Freightways for 20 years. He was the member of St. Amelia R.C. Church, St. Benedict's Senior Group, Amherst Senior Center, a former member of the Eldredge Club, a softball player for many years and an avid gardener. He loved to travel with his wife Theresa and you would often see him driving around town with his pal Jiggs.
