BINGEL - Nelson G., Jr Memorial service will be held on Friday May 2, 2014 for Nelson G. Bingel Jr. of Hamburg, who died suddenly on Saturday, April 26, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Alma (Frase); his children, Beth from Hamburg, Nelson (Carol) from Atlanta, GA, Jeff (Christa) from Crawfordville, FL, and John (June) from Angola; brother Robert (Jane) from Melborne, FL. He has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nelson was born on February 8, 1925 to very hard working parents. They instilled a work ethic that he has passed on to his children. Before finishing high school at East High, he joined the Navy, serving as a Signalman on a PT boat, including combat during WWII. In 1945 he returned to Buffalo to finish his schooling. That is where he met Alma, with whom he has been married to since September 1948. Their life started in Buffalo but they soon moved the family to Hamburg and then Lakeview, where he had built a house. He spent most of his career in sales. Nelson was one of the charter members of the Hamburg Rod and Gun Club, making him a lifetime member. He shot recreationally, competitively, and taught others. He and his family spent many great times at the club. Nelson even had the opportunity to teach the grandchildren about trap and skeet. He was a very active sportsman in hunting, fishing and boating. Nelson and Alma were members of the Buffalo Launch Club on Grand Island for many years. He carried on the boating tradition his father started at the family cottage on Grand Island. Both places were where many of the grandchildren learned boating, swimming, water skiing, and fishing. Time of visitation with the family will be 3 PM to 7 PM, with a time of remembrance and closure at 6:45 to be held at LOOMIS, OFFERS & LOOMIS, INC., (Hamburg Chapel), 207 Main St. Hamburg, NY.
