DAVID ROBERT MACLEAN - ESSEX - David R. MacLean died early Saturday morning, Dec. 21, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, due to complications from ALS. He was born May 25, 1941, in Allentown, Pa., the son of the late Pearl Laura (Hartman) and Chester Curtis MacLean. He was also predeceased by his brother, Barry. David graduated from Allentown High School. He served for six years in the U.S. Navy submarine service, and traveled the world. David moved to Vermont to work for IBM, retiring after 25 years. David enjoyed creating wonderful pieces of furniture for his home. He was an avid collector of weather data for most of his life, and had an official weather station at his former home in Waterbury. He had a passion for dogs, especially his basset hound, Cleo. After being diagnosed with ALS, he was unable to pursue his many interests. He was the beloved husband of Murphy S. (Brunelle) MacLean, with whom he shared his life for the past 24 years. He is also survived by a son, Kevin of Waterbury Center; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and London Wofford of Colchester; stepdaughter, Kathie (Mrs. John) Burnett and her children; sister, Bonnie Lee MacLean of Dover, N.H.; and two nephews, Michael and Christopher Ruby. He was much loved and admired for his great heart and spirit. He will be dearly missed. At David's request, there will be no funeral service. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Junction.
