DOROTHY REID PAQUETTE - WOODSTOCK, Ga./ MILTON, Vt. - Dorothy Reid Paquette, 89, passed away Jan. 5, 2013, in the Woodstock Nursing Center, after a short bout with pneumonia. A longtime resident of Burlington, Dorothy was born on July 1, 1923, in Magna, Utah, daughter of Albert "Bert" and Florence Reid. She was a 1941 graduate of Magna Utah High School, where she played softball and was active in 4H. Dorothy was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, and served at Camp LeJeune, N.C., during W.W.II as a transportation driver. In the Marines, she met her husband, Donald George Paquette, and was married at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City on Nov. 25, 1945. Dorothy returned after the war to Vermont with her husband, who owned several Auto-Tech and Mechanic businesses in the Burlington area. While living on North Street, she and her loving husband, Donald, raised a family of eight and had a lifelong passion for church and sports. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress sewing for home cottage industries and dress manufacturers in Burlington. She was very active in the Nazareth (St. Joseph's) School, the Democratic Party, Sarah Holbrook Community Center, Birchwood Nursing Home, and actively helped seniors (her older people) throughout the Chittenden County area. Dorothy had a strong commitment to family and treated everyone as if they were part of her family. She was most recently a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Alpharetta, Ga., former member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Milton and St. Joseph's Cathedral in Burlington. Her faith and family were the most important parts of her life. She volunteered many hours praying the rosary at church and in area nursing homes to bring faith and hope to the elderly. Dorothy's strong faith was maintained until her death, but her spirit will live on in the many cherished memories of her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Albert and mother, Florence; brothers, Wallace and Kay; sisters, Arlyn, Phyllis and Norma Reid; her husband of 60 years, Donald G. Paquette; as well as the untimely death of her sons, Raymond and Durrell Paquette. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Helen Jones of Magna, Utah; and her loving family; daughter, Donna Richardson and husband, David, of Woodstock, Ga.; sons, Ronald and wife, Lisa, of West Burke, Ralph of Florida, Ricky of Winooski, Dale of Essex Junction, and Duayne and life partner, Joyce Sanders, of Florida; and Raymond's widow, Maggie (Yandow) Paquette, and Durrell's life partner, Nicole Goulette, of Winooski. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and spouses, Ammon and wife, Callyn, Brianna, Ethan Paquette, Nicole Pregent and husband, Tim, Nathan Kapica, Amy, Lindsay, Rick, Chad Paquette, Melissa Richardson, Christopher Irish, Heather Hathaway, Ryan Paquette, Mandy Paquette, Larry Kirby, Lauren Goulette, and Ashley Sanders; five great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nicholas Boynton, Zachary Pregent, Nicholas Paquette, and Annabel Rose Paquette; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Funeral services in Vermont, with military honors, will be announced at a later date in the Burlington Free Press. Local arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, in Winooski.
