EUGENE H. "GENE" BRUNELLE - WINOOSKI - Eugene H. "Gene" Brunelle, 83, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loving family, on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. He was born in Winooski on Feb. 20, 1929, the son of Walter "Tom" and Corrine (Richards) Brunelle, and remained a lifelong resident of Winooski. Gene married the love of his life, Gisele M. (Pinard) Brunelle of Franklin, N.H. on June 7, 1952. He served in the United States Air Force as Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Baffin Island, and later at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester. Gene was employed as a sales representative for Met Life for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He was a lifelong Communicant of St. Francis Xavier in Winooski. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor home from Maine to Florida and then some, and enjoyed flying small planes and attended flight school at Middlebury Airport. Gene valued his home, his cars, and enjoyed working on them. Toward the end of his life, he found great pleasure in sitting outside to feed the squirrels. He will be remembered for his humor and generosity toward others. He loved his family dearly and cherished every moment spent with them. Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Gisele; their daughter, Sharon Richards and her husband, Donald, of Raleigh, N.C.; one grandson, Army Captain John Cummings Jr. and his wife, Shelly, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one granddaughter, Julie Cummings of Raleigh, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, DaShaun Eugene Judd, Haylie Gisele Judd, and Rylie Gene Cummings; and brother, Richard Brunelle of Winooski. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Aline Brunelle Mallott of Fort Wayne, Ind. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, VT 05403.
