FRANCIS J. LAFOUNTAIN SR. - MORRISVILLE - Francis J. LaFountain Sr., 82, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his home in Summerfield, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Laurette (Compagna) LaFountain. He leaves his sons, Louis LaFountain and Francis LaFountain Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Minda LaFountain; his daughter, Sheila LaFountain; his granddaughters, Heather Moore and Megan Manning; his grandsons, Matthew and Noah LaFountain; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. LaFountain was born and raised in Swanton, the son of Paul LaFountain and Elizabeth (Libby) Young LaFountain and was a life-long resident of Morrisville. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Edward and Howard LaFountain; and his sister, Lucy. In his early years, Mr. LaFountain worked on the family farm. In 1957, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for three years as a firefighter. He went on to work for 32 years at the Vermont State Hospital. He met his wife, Laurette (Compagna) LaFountain, at the hospital and they were married on May 7, 1960, at Holy Cross Church in Morrisville. Mr. LaFountain took pride in his family and was always ready to help those who were less fortunate, oftentimes taking them into his home. He had a passion for animals, antique cars and enjoyed attending the car shows. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the White-Fiess Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. A private burial for family and friends will be held in the spring.
