FRANCIS JOSEPH SALENGO SR. - WEST RUTLAND - Francis Joseph Salengo Sr., 76, died Friday, July 26, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in West Rutland May 23, 1937, the son of Stanley Salengo Sr. and Mary (Bania) Salengo. He was a graduate of West Rutland High School, Class of 1955. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Castleton State College in 1962, and his Master's Degree in Education with a Specialty in Reading from the University of Vermont in 1971. Frank was married for 46 years to Marguerite (Bruce) Salengo. Frank began teaching elementary school in 1962. He taught in Barre, followed by Danby, and was a teacher for the Brandon Town School District. After 37 years in education, he retired in 1999 from Neshobe School in Forestdale. Frank served as a member and volunteer of several organizations including the Rutland Regional Medical Center, RSVP, Friends of the West Rutland Town Hall, West Rutland Alumni Association, American Legion Post #87, Loyal Order of Moose, West Rutland Historical Society, Polish-American Club, Italian Aid Society, Vermont Retired Teachers Association, and was a Fourth Degree lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, along with gardening, hunting, fishing, and watching the Boston Red Sox. Frank is survived by his wife, Marguerite (Bruce) Salengo; sons, Francis Jr., and Steven; daughter, Julie and her children, Briana, Justin, and Nicholas; brothers, Stanley Jr. and wife, Ann, and Joseph and wife, Teresa; sister, Theresa Cassidy and husband, Frank; nieces, Melissa Salengo, and Katherine Cassidy; and nephews, James Salengo, and Brian Cassidy. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley Salengo Sr. and Mary (Bania) Salengo; brother, Valentine; and nephew, Jason Cassidy. Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in West Rutland. A reception will follow.
