FRED CHARLES KING - ESSEX JUNCTION - Fred Charles King, of Essex Junction, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014. He was born in Manhattan, NYC, the son of Erminio and Antonietta (Carbonaro) Martelli of Naples, Italy, and adopted by Charles and Polly King of New York. Fred worked at General Electric Company for 24 years; and retired from GE, Lynn, Mass. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the US Navy, active in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a life member of VFW Post #782 Burlington, the RVA Post #514 Winooski, Elks Club, BPOE #916 Burlington, the American Legion Post #91 Colchester, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1618 in South Burlington. He is survived by his wife, MaryLou of Essex Junction; son, Rick Martelli of Colchester; daughter, Kelley and Bob Freeman, and grandson, Taylor French, of Colchester; stepchildren, Michael and Christine Bishop, and grandchildren, Jayson and Sophia, of South Hero; and Martha and Peter Murdough, and grandson, Gavin, of Lebanon, N.J.; grandson, Scott Levertue of southern Vermont; sister-in-law, Gail Fenwick of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Gary Gregoire of Clearwater, Fla., and Glenn Gregoire of Orange; and a close niece, Lori Martin of Burlington. He was predeceased by his daughter, Paula Levertue; and grandson, Armond Levertue. A special thank you to the VA and VNA for their outstanding care. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home, Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Drive, Essex Junction, with burial to follow in Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
