GAETAN YVON DE LA BRUERE - CONVENTRY - Gaetan (Gate) Yvon De La Bruere, 50, of Coventry, Vt., passed away suddenly on Aug. 2, 2014 in Derby, Vt. He was born on Sept. 7, 1963, in Newport, Vt., and was the beloved son of John and Helena (Perron) De La Bruere. After graduating from North Country Union High School in 1981 and New Hampshire Vocational Technical College in 1983, Gaetan entered the family business and worked for his father as a Master Electrician at Newport Electric. In 1989, he left to formulate Gate's Electric, Inc. with business partner, Dennis Lantagne. Outside of work, Gaetan enjoyed teaching, including classes for aspiring electricians at the North Country Career Center. He was also fond of the outdoors, spending most weekends on the lake or in the forest. A proud father, Gaetan never missed an opportunity to cheer on his children at the rink, on the track, or at the field. Gaetan was happiest when he was helping people. His children called him "Superman" because he would always drop whatever he was doing to come to the rescue. When a friend or family member was in need, Gaetan was always the first person to call on. He always said his purpose in life was to lighten the burdens of others, and it was a purpose fulfilled. Members of the community likely met Gaetan on a late night call to restore power and keep their families warm, or giving light to their new dream home. He brought warmth and light into every life he touched, and he will be sorely missed. Gaetan is survived by his sons, Mitchell, Collin, and Spencer; the mother of his children, Carla; and his beloved granddaughters, Gabrielle and Lily. He is also survived by his parents, John and Helena Delabruere; brothers, Alain and wife, Irene, and their children, Alaina, Olivia, Donovan, and Aaron, and Bert and friend, Katrina, and his children, Kyle and Lori; and his sister, Louise Whipple and husband, Don, and their children, Jonathan and Sydney. Gaetan had a special friendship with Robert Desrochers and Daniele Simpson; Richard and Louise Bouffard and their children; his business, partner Dennis Lantagne and his wife, Annette; and his dear friend, Sheila McFarlane. Calling hours will be held at Curtis-Britch- Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, on 4670 Darling Hill Rd., on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, from 6 to 10 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. Reception will follow at the Derby Elks Club. Gaetan will be interred in a private family service at a later date. Online condolences at Curtis-Britch.com. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Curtis-Britch-ConverseRushford Funeral Home, locally family owned and operated. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a trust for the benefit of his grandchildren at Passumpsic Savings Bank, 1 Gardner St., Newport, VT 05855.
