JOHN J. OTOKA - ESSEX JUNCTION - John J. Otoka, 80, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at his home in Essex Junction. He was born June 9, 1933, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Leo and Carrie Marciniak Otoka. After graduating high school in Buffalo, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Economics from Canisius College. He went on to a 23-year career as a Sales Supervisor with Texaco. After retirement, John enjoyed antiquing and craft shows, rooting for the Buffalo Bills, Sabers, and NY Yankees, and especially spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carol Otoka; four children, John Otoka and wife, Amy, Robert Otoka and wife, Tara, Kathleen Gibbs and husband, Joshua, and Thomas Otoka and wife, Sarah; four granddaughters; and sisters, Barbara Stelmach and Mary Wesling. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at St. Lawrence Church, 158 West St. in Essex Junction. A reception to celebrate John's life will follow from 12 to 4 p.m. at VFW Post 1767, 6 Maple St. in Winooski.
