Albert "Al" Kenneth Lauer, 86, of Cabot, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1927, in Natrona Heights, to the late Albert F. and E. Verne Claypoole Lauer.
Al was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was an office supervisor at Allegheny Ludlum, retiring in 1990 after 44 years of service.
He was a member of the Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lower Burrell. He also was a member of the 789 Bethel Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Pittsburgh and the Syria Shrine of Harmar Township, where he was a member of the brass band as a percussionist.
He enjoyed golfing, gardening, feeding birds, traveling, playing and listening to music, and spending winters in Myrtle Beach. He especially enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley A. (Lukehart) Lauer; his children, Lisa A. (John Kavanagh) Lauer of Winter Park, Fla., and Lori A. (Randy) Robinson of Wooster, Ohio; his grandchildren, Matthew Lauer Robinson and Kirsten Nicole Robinson; his brother-in-law, Don H. (Carla) Lukehart; his nieces and nephews, Donald Kraeer, Scott (Melissa) Lukehart, Douglas Lukehart, Marilyn (David) Gilkey, Nick (Debby) Aretz, and Fred Maeder, and his great nephew, Andrew J. Lukehart.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Marjorie Aretz and Jeanne Maeder.
Lauer - The family and friends of Albert "Al" Kenneth Lauer, who passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, are invited to a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3084 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, with the Rev. Elaine M. Hower officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023, or to the Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are being handled by the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Ave., New Kensington.
