Chester A. Langford, 95, of Cabot, formerly of Ligonier, passed away Nov. 20 at the Lund Center at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born on July 29, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late William H. and Mabel (Klein) Langford of Pittsburgh.
A graduate of Peabody High School in Pittsburgh, Chester was a World War II veteran who served in Europe with the 13th Armored "Black Cat" Division, 124th Armored Engineer Battalion, under Gen. George Patton.
He worked for many years for Mellon Bank, now Citizens Bank, beginning in 1952, and retired in 1980, as the branch manager in Saxonburg.
He was a Mason. While he was in Ligonier, he was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, and he currently was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Saxonburg.
Music was an important part of his life, from high school until the present. He was active in church choirs, the Sarver Community Choir, the Sarver Men's Chorus and for many years sang barbershop with SPEBQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America). He was a member of several quartets over the years, including The Travelers, and sang at different events all over Western Pennsylvania and Ohio. The quartet competed in many district and national competitions.
Surviving are his loving wife of 72 years, Virginia (Lundell) Langford; his sons, Ronald C. (Diane) Langford of Ligonier and Kenneth A. (Sharon) Langford of Hastings, Mich.; his daughter, Linda Langford (Paul Hindes) of New York City; his nine grandchildren; and his nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Langford of Lancaster, Pa.
LANGFORD - A memorial service for Chester A. Langford, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel at Concordia Haven 1, 112 Marwood Road, Cabot, with his pastor, the Rev. Deborah Huffmyer, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Chester's name be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 446, Saxonburg, PA, 16056.
