Gerald G. 'Hap' Slaughenhoupt
Gerald G. "Hap" Slaughenhoupt, 88, of Perryville, Parker, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Monday at UPMC Hospital of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident in Perry Township, Clarion County.
He was born in Perry Township, Clarion County, on April 16, 1924, to the late Laurence P. and Margie Gates Slaughenhoupt.
Following graduation from high school, "Hap" served in World War II with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Campaign. He served as a water tender, 2nd class, aboard the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14). His tour began June 3, 1943, and lasted through April 10, 1946.
For a number of years he was employed as a maintenance worker with the former Knox Glass Corp. at Parker. He then served more than 20 years as dispatcher for work crews during nighttime and holidays at Central Electric Co-Op at Parker.
For 37 years, "Hap" served families and funeral directors as sexton of the Perryville Cemetery, near Parker. He was well known for his devotion to the care given the cemetery year after year with careful mowing and trimming of the cemetery.
He was a life member and adjutant for more than 25 years of American Legion Post 598 and was a member of VFW Post 7073, both in Parker. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge in Clarion.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Kriebel Slaughenhoupt, who he married Feb. 13, 1947; one son, Randy (Becky-Rebecca) Slaughenhoupt of Bruin; two daughters, Linda (Gene) Henry of Boiling Springs, Pa., and Vickie (Robert) Kahl of Clarion; five grandchildren, Derreck Henry, Aaron and Chad Slaughenhoupt, Nathan Kahl and Lindsay Dudzick; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Kahl, Jessica Henry, Haley, Hannah and Ava Slaughenhoupt, Beckett Kahl and Henry Hap Dudzick; one brother, Shirl (Joan) Slaughenhoupt of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Slaughenhoupt, and a sister, Mary Jane McMillen.
SLAUGHENHOUPT - Friends of Gerald G. "Hap" Slaughenhoupt, who passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker, and at the church for an hour preceding the funeral. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, West Freedom, Parker, with Pastor Eric Mitchell, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Perryville Cemetery, near Parker.
The American Legion and VFW Posts of Parker will meet at 10:45 a.m. to conduct a veteran memorial service prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, Parker, PA 16049.
