James "Jim" S. Cook, 88, of Cabot completed his life journey and entered his eternal home Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit surrounded by family and friends.
He was born on Feb. 22, 1925, in Coleman, Texas, the son of the late John Thomas and Addie (Prince) Cook.
Jim was a member of the Summit Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Butler High School in June of 1943.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, having served during World War II.
Jim retired from Armco after 40 years of service in August of 1984, where he started as an electrician apprentice and then was a field engineer. After retirement, he drove a bus for the Bauman Bus Co.
Jim was a life member of Lodge 272, Syria Temple, and the Butler Caravan 14, where he was past president.
His primary concern was always for the welfare of his family. He loved farming and spent countless hours in his woodworking shop.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Thelma (Laughlin) Cook of Cabot; his two daughters, Mary Beth Cook of Cedar City, Utah, and Eileen (Jared) Kile of Butler; his son, Thomas V. (Ruth Ann) Cook of Butler; his four grandchildren, Zachary (Tawnie) Kile of Cabot and Emma, Noah and Claire Kile, all of Butler; and his two great-grandchildren, Landyn and Sadie Kile.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William T. Cook, and sister, Mary Louise Cook.
COOK - The friends of James "Jim" S. Cook, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday. The services will be at the Summit Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler, at 11 a.m. Saturday, with his pastor, the Rev. Thomas Jones, officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Session Fund of the Summit Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler.
