Norman H. Pistorius, 88, of Chicora, formerly of Pittsburgh, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 2 at the home of his son in Chicora.
Born on Dec. 5, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Norman was the son of the late Harry (Mex) and Hilda (Froelich) Pistorius.
Norman was married in Pittsburgh to the former Mary Ann Bianchi. She preceded him in death on Feb. 4, 2011.
He and his wife lived in Evans City during their retirement years. Following the death of his wife, Norman lived in Chicora with his son, the Rev. John Pistorius and his wife, Chris, and their three children, Nathan, Abigail, and Adam. He was active with the St. John's Reformed Church Youth Group and supported his son's efforts with the Prison After Care Ministry.
Mr. Pistorius was a World War II Navy Seabee, serving in the South Pacific. He also served in Korea with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Norman is survived by his children, the Rev. John Pistorius and his wife, Chris, of Chicora, Mary Sutton and her husband, Chuck, of Evans City, Sandra Leavy and her husband, John, of Pittsburgh, Donald Pistorius and his wife, Betsy, of Pittsburgh, and Ronald Pistorius and his partner, Carol, of Pittsburgh; his 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Harry "Brud" of Espyville; his sisters, Beatrice and her husband, Larry "Clair" Emeigh, of Pittsburgh and Virginia Kosanovich of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of West Mifflin, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Norman was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Reiland.
Pistorius - The friends of Norman H. Pistorius, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, will be received at St. John's Reformed Church, 334 W. Slippery Rock St., Chicora, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Pistorius, Norman's son, officiating.
Military honors accorded by the Chicora American Legion and the VFW will follow the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Reformed Church Youth Group, the Chicora American Legion or the VFW.
