Robert J. "Bob" Yenick, 83, of Cabot went home to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Thursday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital after complications from open heart surgery.
He was born in Butler, Jan. 17, 1930, to the late John and Mary Yenick.
Robert served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He served as a corporal in the 151 Recon Co. 151 Infantry Division.
Robert first worked as a truck driver for Puntureri Beer Distributing and then as a crane man for Pullman Standard in Butler. His favorite job was working as a foreman for Safety Grooving and Grinding, traveling across the United States, making friends along the way, until he retired at age 80.
He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He was blessed with many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his love of family, family gatherings, camping and his numerous hobbies.
He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Parish in Fenelton, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0828, the Herman Volunteer Fire Department, the Loyal Order of Moose 64 and the VFW post 249.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ellen Rhodaberger Yenick, who he married Sept. 8, 1951, at the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church; four sons, Tony (Pat), Robert (Karen), John (Therese), and Charles (Cindy); three daughters, Theresa Cox, Rita Resides (Tom), and Elizabeth Wilson (David); 22 grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, Christopher, Bridget, Nicki, Dusty, Matt, Melissa, Kassie, Bobby, Jeremy, Kristie, Matthew, Michael, Shalene, Kayla, Jesse, Sarah, Ethan, Zack, Jacob and Ben; 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Hunter, Liam, Wyatt, Hannah, Shayia, Caleb, Addison, Brooklyn, Brayden, Riley and Audrey; and an additional two great-grandchildren on the way.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Linda; one infant son, Joseph; parents, Mary and John Yenick; and a sister, Betty Manning.
YENICK - Friends of Robert J. "Bob" Yenick, who passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John Roman Catholic Church, Coylesville. The Rev. Mark Carter will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the St. John's Parish Cemetery.
