Robert P. "Duck" Vandervort, 84, of Dayton, Armstrong County, formerly of Butler, passed away Thursday at his home.
He was born June 3, 1929, in East Butler, the son of the late Joseph Vandervort and the late Mabel (Herritt) Vandervort.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Distant.
He had worked at Pullman Standard for 19 years and also at Moraine State Park and Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Betty L. (Manny) Vandervort, who he married July 28, 1950; his son, Paul (Jen) Vandervort of Dayton; seven grandchildren, Jim (Chrissy) Emrick, Rocky Emrick, Kassie (Justin) Reichard, Bobbi Jo (Dustin Brocious) Vandervort, Joseph (Steff) Vandervort, Kaley Vandervort and Shannon Neff; seven great-grandchildren; and his nieces, Deb Elliott and Susan Lashier.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Vandervort; his daughter, Kathy Emrick; and his sister, Verna Mae Iman.
VANDERVORT - Friends of Robert P. "Duck" Vandervort, who died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment will be in Gruenwald Cemetery.
Military honors at the grave site will be by the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 778.
