William E. 'Bill' Christie
William E. "Bill" Christie, 80, of Petrolia Road, Petrolia, a well-known Petroleum Valley resident, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home.
Born on March 30, 1933, in Hooker, Concord Township, Bill was the son of Earl H. and Jessie M. Whitmire Christie.
He was a 1951 graduate of Hooker High School and had been employed as a foreman at Witco Chemical in Petrolia for 44 years, retiring in 1995.
Mr. Christie was an avid car enthusiast. He had a special interest in antique cars, and was the proud owner of a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking and gambling. Bill was a member of the Argyle Masonic Lodge 540 F&AM in Chicora. He was master at the time of his passing, and was serving his third term as worshipful master, and was past president of the building association, a position he held for 19 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle 32nd Degree as well as the York Rite Bodies of Butler and the Legion of Honor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
William is survived by his wife, Mary L. Schlagel Christie, who he married in Butler on Feb. 6, 1953. Also surviving are six children, Dennis E. Christie and his wife, Kristie, of Parker, Gary L. Christie of Petrolia, David J. Christie of Bruin, Jack S. Christie and his wife, Leah Ann, of Slippery Rock, Diane L. Weibel and her husband, Steven, of East Brady, and Darla K. West and her husband, Myron, of Slippery Rock; his 10 grandchildren, Marc D. Christie and his wife, Heather, of Petrolia, Kirby D. Christie and his wife, Jennifer, of East Brady, Ryan M. Christie of Parker, Carrie E. Christie of Lower Burrell, Shannon K. Christie of Petrolia, Scott M. Christie and his wife, Melanie, of Dorset, Ohio, Jodie L. Christie of Karns City, Kailyn N. Weibel and her companion, Jason Sweeney, of East Brady, Kati M. Weibel of East Brady and Nicole C. Zimmel of Slippery Rock; his four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Addisyn, Connor and Colton Christie; as well as a number of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Claudine Christie; his brother, Keith; and his two sisters, Helen Campbell and Jane Hutchens.
CHRISTIE - The friends of William E. "Bill" Christie, who died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harper Brady, pastor of the Fairview United Presbyterian Church, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Richard F. Rowe, retired Presbyterian pastor.
Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery, Concord Township.
The Argyle Lodge 540 F&AM will conduct a memorial service for their departed brother at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military honors by the Chicora VFW and the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion Posts will be accorded at the funeral home.
