Dr. Billy Lee Bill Braden WAMEGO- Dr. Billy Lee Bill Braden, 82, of Wamego, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at his home. Bill was born on September 21, 1931 in Eureka, KS to John M. & Helen R. Braden. He earned his Bachelor s Degree in Biology at Emporia State University in 1949, before serving in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He then began medical school at the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City where Bill met his future wife, Elizabeth Huann Armstrong and they were married July 5th, 1959.. In 1960 he received his doctorate of medicine. They moved to Wamego in 1961 where he started his Family Practice. Bill was active in helping start the new Wamego City Hospital, which opened in 1970, where he was chief of staff multiple times. He was a charter member and medical director of Wamego Community Hospice. He was very proud of establishing a free clinic with the help of county health nurses. He retired in 2000 and was honored for by the Wamego City Hospital for 39 years of service. He was preceded in death by his son Lance who passed away in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Huann and his two sons: Stuart (Ann) of Mission, KS, and Chris (Anna) of Wamego; 3 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Collin, Kinsley and two step-grandchildren; Kristin and Kimberly. Bill and Huann were also foster parents for Alma Lister from 1967- 1969. Memorial service:10:00 a.m., Sat., Oct. 12, 2013, First United Methodist Church of Wamego. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Friday, Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego.
