Hillis E. Ed Faulkner Hillis E. Ed Faulkner, age 94 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois and a former resident of Topeka, Kansas from 1945 2011, passed away Saturday evening, May 4, 2013, at 7:25 PM at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Ed was united in marriage to Elizabeth M. (nee Dyck) Coons on June 2, 1974 in Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 4, 1997. Survivors include: a stepdaughter Judy Gurley of Rogue River, Oregon; brother Herman Faulkner of Anaconda, Montana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ed was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He enlisted in April 1941 and served until his honorable discharge on June 23, 1945. Ed served in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He was wounded on three occasions and received the Purple Heart. Ed was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. Ed was employed in the production department of Goodyear Tire Co. in Topeka for over 34 years prior to his retirement. Ed attended the First United Methodist Church in Topeka. Funeral services will be held Friday evening, May 10, 2013, at 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor David Faulkner and Dr. Ron Ferguson will officiate. A flag presentation ceremony will be accorded by the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail. Burial will be at a later date in Marion Cemetery, Marion, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5 PM -7 PM Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Hillview Health Care Center, 512 N. 11th St., Vienna, IL 62995.
