Joseph F. Strathman MO - Joseph F. Strathman (92) passed away peacefully on August 5, 2014 at John Knox Village Retirement Community in Lees Summit, Missouri. He was born in Seneca, Kansas on September 28, 1921, the first of nine children, to Joseph H. And Appolonia (Fangman) Strathman. He attended and graduated from St. Peter & Paul s Grade School and High School in Seneca, Kansas. He also attended Strickland Business College, Topeka, Kansas and Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Missouri. During World War II, Joe served in the Adjutant General s Office of the XIX Corps Headquarters in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received service medals for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and The Ardennes. Joe was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Shortly after his service ended he married Ann O Brien on May 8, 1946 in Washington, Pennsylvania. They later divorced and she predeceased him in 2009. They lived in Topeka, Kansas for many years where they raised their four children and Joe worked in the family business. They relocated to Overland Park, Kansas in 1980. Joe sold real estate, holding a Kansas and Missouri realtors license and retiring in 1986. After retiring, Joe moved to Knox Village Retirement Community, where he was an active member of the community for many years. His Parents, granddaughter Meghan Strathman, Bristol, Connecticut , brother Art Strathman, Topeka, Kansas, and sister Betty Winterscheidt, Brisbane, Australia, predeceased him. He is survived by his four children: JoAnn Nichols and husband Stephen, Arlington, Texas, son Brian Strathman and fianc e Molly Hayes, Bristol, Connecticut, Mark Strathman and wife DuRell, Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Knight and husband Gary, Wichita, Kansas, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mildred Jilka, Lawrence, Kansas, Robert (Grace) Strathman, Seneca, Kansas, Rose Mary Riley, Iola, Kansas, William Strathman, Phoenix, Arizona, Lyle (Bernie) Strathman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Judith Oden, Lincoln, Nebraska. Burial will be 11:00 August 27th at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Joseph Strathman
