Dr. Christine Kontomerkos-Ferreira, loving wife of Tony Ferreira and beloved mother of Aiden Ferreira, passed away on Thursday January 3, 2013, surrounded by her immediate family. She was 34 years old and a longtime resident of Trumbull. Christine was a graduate of Trumbull High School and of Boston University, where she received two Bachelor degrees, one in Biology and the other in Philosophy. After she completed internships at Yale University Medical School's Boyer Center for Molecular Medicine and Department of Cardiothoracic Research, she spent months in South America studying the ancient and modern uses of medicinal plants with natives in the Amazon Rainforest, learning their traditions and their medicine. Upon her return she went on to earn a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine and a Master's degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport Nutrition Institute. Christine's passion and dedication to help others resulted in the opening of her own private practice in Trumbull. Her unwavering aspiration to advance the art of natural healing solutions and medicines allowed her practice to grow into one of the area's most notable facilities. She deeply cared about her patients whose health and well-being were of paramount importance to her. She touched and enriched the lives of many people in the community through her sincere interest in ensuring they pursued a healthy lifestyle. Her favorite times were spent with family and friends where she always infused her passion for living into every event. She loved music, dancing, and being with friends, and every gathering was made better when Christine served her family's delicious spanakopita recipe. Christine cherished the holidays, rich with tradition where she was an aunt, a sister, a daughter, and a godmother to a loving family. Above all, being home and spending time with her husband, Tony, and son, Aiden, will always perfectly reflect how she loved to live. We will always remember Christine's beautiful brown eyes and contagious smile, as they are certain to never fade from our memory. Christine is survived by her husband Tony Ferreira and her son Aiden of Trumbull, CT, parents Andrew and Vasiliki Kontomerkos of Trumbull, CT, her sister Elizabeth Kontomerkos Vancho and her husband Jim and their daughters Sophia and Olivia of Fairfield, CT, and her brother Mario Kontomerkos and his wife Helise and their daughter Theodora of Madison, CT. Funeral Services for Dr. Christine Kontomerkos-Ferreira will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church at 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport on Tuesday, January 8th at 10am and interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull.
