In Loving Memory of Domenic E. Rotolo
Domenic E. Rotolo, 89, of Stratford died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 5, 2013. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Susanne Leigh Rotolo and his former wives, Ruth and Patricia Rotolo.
Born in Fairfield, CT, on March 3, 1924, he was one of four children to the late John and Josephine Rotolo. His long, industrious career began at Bullard Havens with a part-time job in high school. At 19, Domenic joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the 595th SAW Battalion as Technician Fifth Grade radio operator during World War II in the Philippines. He earned six medals for his wartime service. Upon his return home, he became one of the first independent distributors in New England for Frito- Lay. He then became a franchise owner for Magic Fingers, while also starting his own successful independent commercial property business which he operated until his death.
Domenic was a charter member of the Fairfield Elks Lodge #2220 for 53 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport, and a member of the Harugari Singing Society, Loyal Order of Moose, and the VFW.
In his earlier years, Domenic enjoyed hunting, tennis, attending auctions and was an avid fan of the Indy 500. In later years, he was a world traveler and loved taking cruises, enjoyed boating, fishing, playing cards and slots, watching sports and reading newspapers. Domenic had a life-long fascination with flight and the space program. He attended almost every space shuttle launch and sought out opportunities to fly. He piloted a Goodyear Blimp and a Russian Fighter jet, and flew in a B17 - the latter he shared with his son and grandson. Domenic was known for his fleet of treasured Delta 88s which he drove with pride up and down the East Coast.
He leaves wonderful memories with his family; his beloved companion of over 31 years, Ingrid Keohane, and his three sons and their families: Domenic Rotolo, of Boston, MA; Clay Rotolo and Karen Marquis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Peter and Stacy Rotolo, of Westport, CT. He also leaves behind his sister Sally Szoke and brothers, Sam and Charles Rotolo, four grandchildren; Vinny Rotolo and Kyle H. Rotolo, Kyle M. Rotolo and Logan Rotolo, and many loving nieces and nephews. Ingrid's four sons, Richard, Thomas, Peter and William Keohane and their families, who considered Domenic a step-father, will miss him dearly. He cherished his wide circle of friends especially his nephew, Sam (Jack) Rotolo and Glen Austin. Domenic lived his life fully leaving only three things undone on his bucket list: marrying Ingrid, going to Rio de Janeiro and taking a commercial space flight.
