James "Jimmy" D'Aprile, 61, of Trumbull, formerly of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 4, 2014 with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Jimmy was born in Stamford on October 9, 1952 to the late Edward and Katherine Passero D'Aprile.
Jimmy was an employee of SNET for thirty years as a Product and Business Development Manager, where he was responsible for the development and implementation of the first commercially available cellular pre-paid service plan. After his retirement he worked for Cellnet Technologies as an operations manager and then Itron Corporation as a Senior Operations Manager. However, Jimmy was more so known for his larger than life personality, his positive attitude and outlook on life. Jimmy felt it was important to give back to others as he was active in many charities. He was the Director of the Connecticut Special Olympics Winter Games for twenty five years where he was honored with the Unsung Hero Award. He also received the Community Service Award from the New Haven Police Department.
Jimmy is survived by his loving daughter Melissa D'Aprile, his former wife Beverly D'Aprile, both of Trumbull, his nieces Michelle Sienkiewicz and Alicia Hunniford, several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides his parents Jimmy is predeceased by his sister Kathy Chickvary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St, Mary's RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT. Interment will be private and there will be no calling hours.
