Bochniak, Matthew
Matthew Bochniak, age 80, of Fairfield, beloved husband of Dorothy Bochniak, passed away on January 24, 2014 with his loving family by his side. Born in Fairfield to the late Karol and Anna Sarna Bochniak, Matthew had worked as a foreman at Exide Battery for over 30 years and later retired from Sikorsky Aircraft. A United States Army Veteran, Matthew was a Southport Volunteer Fire Fighter for over 60 years and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2007. He was also an avid New York Mets and New York Giants fan. Matt could frequently be seen at the South Benson Marina relaxing where a plaque "#138 Time Out" is found in his honor. He could also be found on Friday nights at the Ukrainian Club with his friends. In addition to his devoted wife, Dorothy, Matthew is survived by his daughters, Debi Bochniak, and her companion, Richard Havanec, of Fairfield and Darice Bochniak, and her husband, Robert Appleby, of Fairfield; a granddaughter, Ashley Appleby; a brother, Joseph Bochniak, and his wife, Marian, of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and John Pace. Funeral services will be held on February 1, 2014 at 12:30 PM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Fairfield. Friends may greet the family on February 1, 2014 from 9:00 - 12:00 in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center.
