Sanford, Peggy
Peggy Marie Sanford of Westport, CT passed away on May 20, 2013 following a year-long battle with ALS. She was the wife of William Edward Sanford, her husband of fifty-one years. An avid reader and a sophisticated lover of the arts, Peggy enjoyed painting, opera music, and Broadway productions in addition to playing tennis. Peggy was born in Chicago on April 8, 1941 as the only child of George and Ellen Hannu. She lived in Chicago until she moved with her family to Los Angeles in the 1950's. After graduating from UCLA in 1962 with a BS in Business Administration, she married Ed Sanford, and the two of them settled in Weston, CT where they raised three sons and became heavily involved with Norfield Church. She worked as a partner in her husband's entrepreneurial endeavors and traveled extensively with him later in life. Predeceased by her eldest son Britt E. Sanford of Lewisberg WV, Peggy leaves behind her devoted husband Ed, their two loving sons Kip A. Sanford of Lynnfield, MA and Chad B. Sanford of Media, PA, and eight grandchildren: Devon, Jack, Brenna, Kevin, Teddy, Annie, Grace, and Owen. "Grama Peggy" was a strong, gracious, and talented individual who touched many lives with her warm and generous spirit. She was deeply loved by her friends and family and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 26th at Southport Congregational Church (524 Pequot Avenue, Southport, CT). Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to ALS 4 Oxford St., Milford, CT.
