Matthew Rossi, age 92, of Ocala, Florida and previously of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Marie Caserta Calzone-Rossi died suddenly February 21, 2014 in Ocala, Florida. Mr. Rossi was born May 30, 1921 in Bridgeport, son of the late Nicholas and Theresa (Pace) Rossi and was a lifetime Stratford resident until 1993 when he moved with Marie to Florida. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and was retired from Warner Rexham Packaging, Bridgeport. Survivors include his loving sister Louise Rossi of Stratford; nieces and nephews Rose Anderson of Stratford, CT, Michael and his wife Janet DeCarlo of Ocala, FL, Theresa Hart and her husband Richard of Northford, CT, Nickola Payne of Prescott Valley, AZ, Geraldine Compos of Chino, CA, Martha Jersey of Stratford, CT, Matthew Snape of Prescott Valley, AZ, Eloise Turzer of Clermont, FL, Donna Bonaparte of Bridgeport, CT, Dolores Sperling of Stratford, CT and Nicholas Rossi of Handford, CA; six step children, Toni Marie Calzone of Stratford , Robert Calzone and his wife Donna of Stratford, John Calzone of Stratford, Alan Calzone and his wife Barbara of Stratford, Michael Calzone of Ansonia, Anthony Calzone, Jr. of Milford; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael Rossi, John Rossi and Anthony Rossi; four sisters, Dorothy Perillo, Carmella Snape, Mary DeCarlo and Lucy Smith; a nephew Robert Petrolite, a niece Carmella Hall and a stepson, Stephen Calzone. Friends are invited to attend his funeral on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 9:30 am from the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford and at 10:30 am in St. James Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 pm in the funeral home.
