Perna, Sally Pappas
Sally Pappas Perna, 81, resident of West Haven, CT and formerly of Stamford, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 12, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born in Stamford, CT on May 13, 1932 to the late Achilles and Bertha (Adams) Pappas.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Michele Grabowiecki, her son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Yolanda Perna, four grandchildren, Katharine (Robert) Lowenthal, Ashley Grabowiecki, Justin Perna and Jessica Perna, and a great-grandchild, Dyani Perna. Sally is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Barbara Pappas, her sisters, Joan Bolanis and Helen Coker, and many beloved nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, Pretty Girl, who will miss her calls to eat in Greek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Roger Pappas.
Sally was born and raised in Stamford before moving to reside in Bridgeport, Fairfield and finally, West Haven, CT. She was the first female police officer hired for the Fairfield Police Department, where she proudly served for 20+ years. She also served as a body guard for President Ronald Reagan on many of his visits to the Fairfield County area during his presidency. A devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church, Sally was a dedicated parishioner of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport, CT where she served in the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Sisters of Penelope. Above all, Sally truly loved life, and she dedicated her life to doing things for her family and others. She had a way of touching the hearts of everyone she interacted with. She will be sadly missed and will forever live in the hearts of her family, friends, and by all those who knew and loved her.
Sally's family welcomes all friends and relatives on Tuesday, October 15th from 5 pm to 8 pm at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, October 16th at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 1230 Newfield Avenue, in Stamford, CT. Rev. Fr Evangelos Evangelidis will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, in Stamford.
The Perna family has entrusted Sally's final care to Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford.
