Wesley Kerekonish, age 95, died peacefully in the early morning hours of July 2, 2013 in the comfort of his Stratford home, after a brief illness. Born in 1918, in Dunmore, PA, he was a son of the late Frank and Anna Varga Kerekonich. He was a 1936 graduate of Dunmore H.S. where he served as class president and was also a member of the track team. He was a member of the St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Dunmore for 18 years and Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford since 1947. An Air Force veteran of WWII, he was assigned to the HQ 8th Airforce at High Wycombe, England in 1942, serving as Sergeant Major with the rank of Master Sergeant. Later he served on the staff of General Jimmy Doolittle as an Assistant Adjutant General with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was presented the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement, and also received the Eame Service Medal and American Defense Ribbon. He was employed by Parson Brothers Inc. in Bridgeport as a purchasing agent for 20 years; and 10 years as a contract specialist/negotiator for the Naval Air Systems Command stationed at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, from where he retired in 1980. An avid competitive golfer, he competed in many state and local tournaments and enjoyed a low handicap of four. He was a member of both Fairchild-Wheeler and Smith-Richardson clubs for 47 years. A gregarious fellow, Wes enjoyed taking long daily walks around town and could often be seen engaged in conversation in Paradise Green. He was a generous person, particularly to those less fortunate than him. His motto was "Simplify Your Life" and that is how he lived his. Wes was predeceased by three brothers Frank, Michael and George and two sisters, Ann "Kitty" Fillo and Margaret McNulty. He is survived by his wife Christina Szafranski Kerekonish, daughters Janet Kerekonish, Patricia K. Parker and son-in-law Stuart Parker and their children Colin and Andrew, a niece Marilyn Condie and her son Jason. Those so desiring may contribute to the Bridgeport Rescue Mission P.O.
