Bennie Switzer, beloved husband of Doris Switzer, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Bennie was born in Calgary and completed his grade 12 education at Western Canada High School. Bennie met his wife Doris at a dance in downtown Calgary. The two were wed in 1956, and fondly called each other "Joe" for their 56 years of loving marriage. While raising three children in the community of Bowness, Bennie worked various jobs, including co- owning and operating a dry cleaning/dye house business and working as a boiler engineer at Atco Structures and the Grace Hospital. Bennie enjoyed fishing, bowling, woodworking and playing crib. Bennie and Doris were long-time members of the Forest Lawn Alberta Loyal Order of Moose as well as the Forge Seniors Club, where they formed many close friendships over the years. Later in life Bennie greatly enjoyed being a granddad. His eight grandchildren will miss his stories, trickery and teasing. Bennie is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, Deborah (Brian) Cook, Vivian (Mark) Klingbeil, Allan (Kimberley); and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Annalise, Cailynn, Quinn, Aidan, Morgan, Alexandra and Jacintha. A Celebration of Life will be held at Moose Lodge, 4885 Hubalta Road S.E., on Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
