MARTIN, Donna Marie
December 12, 1945 - Didsbury, AB
May 4, 2014 - Didsbury, AB
Donna (nee Cameron) was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from our lives May 4, 2014 at the age of 68. Donna's formative years were spent in Taber and Tilley and after marrying Duane in 1965 she lived and worked in Waterton Lakes, Banff, Jasper, Ottawa and Calgary. Prior to retiring Donna worked as the Administrator at Delmar College of Hair Design and often spoke fondly of the students she had been able to help and those that had also influenced her. Donna was a three time cancer survivor and prided herself in never missing a day of work or supporting her family throughout her treatment. Donna twice participated in the 60 km Walk "Weekend to End Breast Cancer" and wore that experience as a badge of pride. Donna enjoyed a wide circle of friends and had maintained long-lasting friendships with folks she met in Grade and High School. Donna loved people and animals. If you were her friend it was for life. Various dogs and cats through the years lived pampered and privileged lives as her pets. In retirement, she kept herself busy with cooking, reading and volunteered four years as a Director on the Board of the Chinook Arches Victims Services Society where she enjoyed working with the other board members and expressed her admiration for the work that organization does. Donna's greatest love was for family and friends. She maintained a very close bond with her sisters Bev and Bonnie. She was so proud of her son, daughter-in-law and watching her granddaughter "Grandma's Heart" grow into the loving, intelligent and talented young lady she has become. Our hearts are torn. Donna is survived by her husband and best friend Duane; son Darren (Shawna) and beloved granddaughter Tory. She is also survived by her sisters Bev Cameron, Bonnie Normoyle and Cindy Cameron; brothers Dale and Barry Cameron. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Carstairs Community Hall (1100 Lackner Way, Carstairs). In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Calgary Humane Society.
