Russ Cukr passed away on Saturday July 26, 2014 at the age of 93 in his home in Calgary. Russ was born in Seville, and raised in Orrville, OH. He joined the US Army in 1942. His service time was an important part of his life where he served as a Tech Sergeant, Glider Infantry, 13th Airborne Division with his final tour in Belgium, France and Germany in WWII. After the war, he owned a plastering business in the Akron area until he moved to Calgary in 1963 to join in business with his brother Gene. He stayed in Calgary through the rest of his life, with the exception of a six year position with Syncrude in Fort McMurray, AB. An avid sportsman, Russ enjoyed all the fishing and hunting that Alberta had to offer. He also enjoyed playing golf. Most of his close friends were associated with these activities. Russ is survived by his children James L Cukr, Bob Cukr, Holly Hood and Bill Cukr; their mother Rosella Cukr; grandchildren, James A Cukr, Sarena Foks, Luke Hood and Sam Cukr; great-grandchildren Garrett Cukr, Reese Foks, Chloe Foks and Maxine Cukr; and his brother Don Cukr and sister Janis Jones. A private family service will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Russ Cukr, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
