BATES, William Arthur
December 10, 1919 - April 26, 2014
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband and good friend. Bill was born and raised in Calgary A.B. After serving 4 1/2 years in th RCAF during WWII he returned to Calgary where he studied art for three years. He then settled into an 18 year career with Canadian Fina Oil Company as a Landman and married his wife Gisela. During this time, he and Gisela moved onto a hobby ranch near Millarville, A.B. where horses, cattle and pets played a meaningful part in his life. In 1969, Bill and his wife moved to Victoria, B.C. where he assumed a new career as a Realtor. Upon retirement in 1983 he and Gisela moved to Qualicum Beach B.C. where gardening, wood carving and playing bridge became important activities in his life. In 1987 they moved to Nanaimo, B.C. where he spent the rest of his life. Bill was a kind-hearted and hospitable man who always had a wave and a smile to share with those he encountered.
He will be missed... with fond memories.
