Alfred Billingsley Obituary
Born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas, Alfred O. Billingsley went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, August 4, 2014. A cowboy at heart, he had more sayings than you could shake a stick at. He loved life and had many surprises - one time he even came home with a horse though he had no place to keep it! Al loved golf, fishing, and most of all, he loved to meet people. He could go into a room of 10 strangers and leave 30 minutes later with 9 new best friends. Al served in the Navy for 8 years. In addition, he had a long and varied career from truck driver to shift foreman in the uranium industry. After his retirement in the 1980's, he had many recreational occupations. He was a devout Christian and he and his wife, Idona, did missionary work in Mexico for 10 years. He was preceded in death by his son; Brian, his parents, and six brothers. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Idona Billingsley of Canon City; 9 children, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. Also surviving are his brother; Joe, and sister; Betty, of Texas. He had numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church, 303 E3, in Florence Aug 14, 2014 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Southern Baptist Church youth group.
