Maradee Wendt Obituary
Maradee was born on December 19, 1926 in Galveston, Texas to Dr. and Mrs. D.R. Foster and died Thursday, May 8, 2014. She attended local schools in several small Texas towns, graduating from Itasca High School in 1944. She attended the University of Texas, Baylor University, and graduated from Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas in 1948 with a degree in journalism. She taught high school journalism, was a substitute teacher, and worked for newspapers and in the retail business during her lifetime. While at Texas Tech she met another journalist, Charles E. Wendt, who she married on April 13, 1949. Maradee and Charles had two daughters, Deeann Wendt Jayson (Ron) and Vicki Kay Wendt King. Maradee is survived by her husband of 65 years, her daughter, Deeann; son-in-law, Ron; seven grandchildren, Tara, Ethan, and Zachary (Sunaholy) Jayson, Carrie (Tyler) Rossman, Jerad (Kay), Kent (Katelyn) and Christi King; and two great-granddaughters, Marin and Kelty Rossman. She is also survived by her best friends who were also her sisters, Thala Stalls, Tina Schacht, and Carol Kerbel. Maradee's beloved daughter, Vicki, pre deceased her. Maradee loved to read, especially history. She was an expert on many different subjects, but especially Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, Winston Churchill, and the English monarchy. She would print out the sermons from the church website and study them throughout the week as well as her daily devotionals. When it was time for the Senior Mini College, she enjoyed all the classes she could squeeze into the week. She was a true example of a life long learner. More than anything she loved her family and unselfishly devoted many, many hours to them. Her grandchildren adored their "Manee" and will feel her loss with much sadness. Maradee was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, St. Gabriel's Guild, and Episcopal Churchwomen donating many hours to the Thrift House in Colorado Springs. While she was able she worked at the Dinosaur Depot as a volunteer. Her memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church in Canon City. Donations may be made in her memory to Christ Episcopal Church, 802 Harrison, Canon City, CO 81212. Arrangements are under the care of Holt Family Funeral Home.
