Michael Bartkowiak Obituary
Michael Raymond Bartkowiak, 62, passed away July 19, 2014 in Cotopaxi, Colorado. He was born in Elgin, Illinois on February 19, 1952. Michael grew up in Hanover Park, IL and joined the Army in 1968. A Spc. 4 Vietnam Soldier, Michael was a helicopter door gunner and a front line soldier in Cambodia rescuing soldiers from behind enemy lines. In 1971, he was shot multiple times and was sent back to the States where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Commendation Medal, Bronze Star with V for Valor, and the Army Air Medal. He served one more year at Ft. Sill Oklahoma. After his discharge, Michael moved back to the Hanover Park - Streamwood area in Illinois. In 1995, he moved to Cotopaxi where he served for as a volunteer EMT for the Arkansas Valley Ambulance from 2007 to 2013. Michael was passionate, and loved the outdoors. He was forever amazed by the beauty of nature. He loved photography, hiking, fishing, and prospecting. Michael is survived by his mother and step-father, Frances and Walter Carro of Canon City; father, David Bartkowiak of Stevens Point, WI; wife, Nancy Dayton-Bartkowiak of Aurora, CO; daughters, Ashley Dayton-Dubre and Sarah Serier of Aurora, CO; brothers, Mark Bartkowiak of St. Charles, IL, Gary Bartkowiak of Westminster, CO and Kelly Bartkowiak of Thornton, CO; sister, Sandra Bartkowiak of Lakewood, CO; and step-brother, Jon Carro of Canon City. He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel T. Bartkowiak. Give Mike a big Salute, His duty is over...
