Wesley Dawes

Wesley Ray Dawes, 87, of Canon City, passed away May 12, 2016. Ray was born in Hoxie, Kansas on April 14, 1929, to Charley and Hazel (Voyles) Dawes. After graduating from Canon City High School, Ray joined the Army, where he served in the Korean War. Upon returning home, Ray took a job at Helm Drug Store, where he worked for 52 years until retiring as the store co-owner in 2003. After retiring he worked part time at the car wash at Kwik Stop in Penrose for 10 years. Ray cherished the time he spent with his family, especially fishing, hunting, and doing work around the house and yard with his grandsons. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lucille Dawes; daughter, Linda (Alan) Drake; grandchildren, Jordan (Brooke) Drake, Spencer (Juli) Drake; great-grandson, Easton Drake; twin brother, Lesley (Bobbie) Dawes; numerous extended family members, many friends, and his devoted, four-legged companion, "Marley Mae". Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charlie Dawes, Wilbur Dawes; and sister, Virginia Weinheimer. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 19, with visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m., Wilson Memorial Chapel, in Canon City. Interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
