Chester "Al" Gifford
age 82, of Massillon, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Shinnston, W.Va. on Nov. 24, 1930 to the late Chester E. and Edna Gifford. Al was employed as a heavy equipment operator. He worked with Myer's Equipment and also owned Gifford's Antiques for several years. Al proudly served his country in combat during the Korean Conflict as a member of the US Army, 25th Infantry Division, 27th Wolfhounds. He enjoyed going to Mountaineer, was very sociable and never met a stranger. He was a wheeler-dealer and had a great sense of humor. He loved his dogs deeply and was very proud of his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Jean Gifford; his two sisters, June Ernest and Mary Alice Coker; and his two brothers, Jim and Bill Gifford.
Survivors include his three children, Scott (Jayne) Gifford, Shelley Showers and Barry (Amy) Gifford; grandchildren, Christa and Keith Gifford, Patrick and Alex Showers, Tim Shumway and Emily Gifford; and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
