Douglas F.
of Viera, and formerly of Massillon, Ohio, died Jan. 1 at Wuestoff Hospice House. Doug was born on Oct. 20, 1921, in Dunkirk, N.Y. He graduated High School and spent most of his life in Massillon, Ohio where he and his wife, Helen, were active members of Faith Lutheran Church. Doug and Helen moved to Viera, Fla. in 2004. Doug was a World War II veteran serving in the European theater. His hobbies included wood carving and sports, particularly baseball, golf, and bowling. He remained an active bowler through May, 2012. He was an avid volunteer at the Senior Center and Sr. Bowling League in Massillon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by four siblings-two infants, Charles Mandeville, Eva Strohm, and his wife of 62 years, Helen. He is survived by a sister, Phyllis Chovan, and three children, Susan Nichols (Eric) of Viera, Fla.; Alan Mandeville (Linda) of Catawba Island, Ohio; and Julie Girt (David) of Antioch, Tenn. In addition, he is survived by five grandchildren, Eric Russell Nichols, Jamie Buynoski (Mark), Jason Girt (Lucy), Shawna (Greg) Voss, and Ethan Mandeville, as well as four great-grandchildren, Michael, Mason, Amelia, and Sadie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Advent Lutheran Church on January 12, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Advent Lutheran Church or to a . Special thanks go out to all at Wuestoff Hospice House. Doug's ashes will be placed in the Memorial Garden at Advent Lutheran Church. Beckman Williamson Funeral Home of Viera is serving the family.
