Glenna Ruth Mitchell Davis

age 92, of Massillon, passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013. Born in Chalfants, Ohio, Sept. 18, 1921, a daughter to the late Kenon B. and Gertrude (Irwin) Mitchell, she graduated from Belle Valley (Ohio) High School with the Class of 1940 - the largest class to have graduated from the school at that time. Following graduation she went to work as an assistant clerk for the draft board in Caldwell, Ohio, until enlisting in the WAVES. Glenna received training at Hunter College in New York and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She was assigned to the US Navy Bureau of Personnel in Washington, D.C., where she served from March 1942 - July 1946, earning the rank of Yeoman First Class. Returning home to Massillon where her family had relocated from Belle Valley, she worked for Dr. A.P. Gardner, DDS, and then at Massillon Steel Casting. She also worked at Smith Dairy in Orrville and American Arts China in Sebring before accepting a secretarial position with the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing from which she would retire after 20 years of service.
Preceded in death by her parents; Glenna is survived by her son, Gregory A. Davis, of Massillon; her brother, Eugene (Carol) Mitchell, of Newark, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
