James R. Essig
age 86, of Hartville passed away Sunday afternoon in Aultman Compassionate Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Canton he was the son of the late Russell & Edith (Wilson) Essig and had lived in the Hartville area most of his life. He was a graduate of Hartville High School, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and retired from Republic/LTV Steel. He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, the Louisville Eagles, the VFW Louisville Post #7490 and the American Legion, Louisville Post #548. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, James R. Essig II; two brothers and three sisters.
Jim is survived by his wife, Donna (Dallas) Essig of the home; son, Tim (Kathy) Essig of Conneaut, Ohio; daughter, Susan (Brian) Hoopes of Cortland, Ohio; sister, Catherine Rosso of Canton; grandchildren, Heather, Andrea, Lisa, Julie and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas W. Cebula as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Warstler Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 12 noon to 1:00 pm in the Church. Donations may be made in his name to Aultman Compassionate Care Center. The Wackerly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
