Monteith R. Bilkert
91, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord, Friday, April 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bahrain, Arabia to the Reverend Henry A. Bilkert and Anna (Monteith) Bilkert, missionaries of the Reformed Church in America. "Monty" served in World War II as a Naval pilot aboard the carrier Petroff Bay. On March 24, 1945 he married Virginia Norden. He graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1948. Monty had a long career in sales including service with the E.W. Bliss Company and with Cutler Real Estate. He retired in 1986 from First Federal S&L, where he served as senior loan officer. As an expression of his Christian faith, Monty served as a board member and as construction site coordinator for Habitat for Humanity in Canton. He enjoyed camping and travelling across the U.S. and Europe, as well as woodworking and gardening. A lifelong churchman, he served Faith United Methodist Church wherever needed and throughout his life actively pursued a growing faith.
Monty was a beloved husband and father. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Virginia (Norden) Bilkert; and four loving children, Amy (RC) Green, Monteith (Barbara) Bilkert, Jeffrey (Margaret) Bilkert, and Daniel (Gigi) Bilkert; eight grandchildren, Allison (Andrew) Dennison, Kristin Green, Sarah, Annah, Elizabeth, Claire, Ethan, and Kara Bilkert; three great-granddaughters, Isabella, Josephine, and Lillian. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Bilkert Lemmer and Virginia Bilkert Koop.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 28 at 5 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, North Canton. The family will greet friends at 4:30. Inurnment will take place at North Canton Cemetery.
