Richard J. 'Peaty' Moser

age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 8, 2013, following a brief illness. He was born in Dalton on Feb. 21, 1921 to Jack N. and Clara G. (Zaugg) Moser. A life resident of Dalton, he was a 1939 graduate of Dalton High School, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the Signal Corps. He married Evelyn (Tschantz) Moser in 1941 in their first home that he built. Richard retired from Ohio Edison in 1983 after 37 years of service and later served as a consultant to Schantz Organ Company. He was a lifelong member of the Dalton Presbyterian Church, a past member of the Dalton Rotary Club, and an avid genealogist where he volunteered for the Kidron Community Historical Society tracing local genealogy for many families. He was a square dance caller for the Gnat Boxers square dance group for many years. Richard had been an amateur radio enthusiast for the past 80 years with call letters W8XM, and was a member of the First Class Operators Club, a world-wide organization for ham radio operators based in the United Kingdom.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; sister, Faye; granddaughter, Alexandria. He is survived by his wife of nearly 72 years, Evelyn; four children, Sandy (John) McIlvaine of Dalton, John (Kathy) Moser of Columbus, Nancy Moser of Dalton, Jim (Jeanne) Moser of East Kingston, N.H.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Marion Moser of Springfield, Va.; six nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton 44618, with Rev. Eldon Trubee, officiating. Burial will take place at Dalton Cemetery with military honors. Friends and family may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Dalton, and one hour prior to service time at the church.
