Robert (Bob) F. Cornish
87, of North Canton, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, with his wife, Corine, and family members by his side in the Aultman Compassionate Care Center in Canton, Ohio.
Bob was born May 12, 1925, in Canton to Robert and Miriam Cornish. He graduated from Canton Lehman High School, served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force as a navigator on a B-17 bomber based in Italy, and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he was employed by the Timken Company for 34 years and retired from the Research Department in 1985. Bob was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and he was active in many engineering organizations. He was a former member of the Atwood Yacht Club where he enjoyed racing sailboats with various family members as his crew. He was an avid woodworker, home shop machinist, and enjoyed creating stained glass art. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Corine, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on Nov. 26 of this year; daughter, Susan Grady (Robert) of North Canton; and two sons and their spouses, Dr. Eric and Michelle Cornish of Alpena, Mich., and Dale and Barbara Cornish of Saline, Mich. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brian Grady of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lara Cornish and Jacob Cornish of Saline, Mich.; his sister, Suzanne Hauschildt of Clovis, Calif.; and his brother, Norman Cornish of Bloomfield, Mich.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at Christ Presbyterian Church with Rev David L. de Vries and Rev. Wendy L. Bausman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (10:30- 11:30 a.m.) in the Parlor. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas Street West, Canton, OH 44702 or to Aultman's Compassionate Care Center, c/o Aultman Foundation, Attn: Lee Kenny, 2600 6th Street SW, Canton, OH 44710. The family wishes to thank all of Bob's caregivers at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Aultman Hospital in Canton, and Aultman's Compassionate Care Center for all of the wonderful care and kindness they provided.
