CHRISTY, BARRY, of Severna Park passed away on Thursday, September 19th after a long and courageous fight with pancreatic cancer. Barry was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on September 4, 1942. He was the son of the late Victor and Dora Christy. He was a 1964 graduate of Penn State University. He attended University of Pennsylvania and received his master's degree in landscape architecture. Barry moved to Annapolis area in 1969 and worked for the State of Maryland. In 1970 he moved to Rochester, New York to work with Sterling Homex and after two winters he returned to Annapolis. In the ensuing years he worked at several engineering firms including Messick and Sons and McCrone. He eventually returned to work for the State of Maryland. He retired from the State and Program Open Space in July 2012. He will be remembered for his many talents, chef, artist, seamster, gardener and thespian. Barry was involved with colonial players for many years. He made lifelong friends through his volunteer work at the theatre. Since 1998 he has worked with the Water Street Players of the Severn School. For fifteen years he worked with his longtime friend Sharie Valario as the technical director in the theatre arts department performing two shows a year for the school. He worked hard on each production and was always so proud of the finished product. He leaves behind a daughter, Hillary Diane of Baltimore, son Barton (Erica) of Virginia Beach and one grandson, Maddox Christopher, the light of his life. In addition he leaves, "Memphis" his Grand dog. He also leaves a brother Terry (Connie) of Irwin Pennsylvania and two nieces and a nephew. He precedes his wife of 31 years, Diane Decker Christy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 11 AM at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home in Severna Park, Maryland.
