BECKER, CAROLINE JUNE, passed away on June 24, 2013, at the age of 89. She was born in Duluth, Minnesota on June 17, 1924. Mrs. Becker was raised in Minnesota where she enjoyed the snow and was an avid figure skater. At the age of 16, she embarked on a professional singing career, singing jingles on a local radio station. She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where she met her husband of 61 years, John Alexander Becker. They married in 1945, and honeymooned in California where Mr. Becker was stationed in the Army at the time. After World War II, the Becker's moved to Maryland. Mrs. Becker continued her singing career, performing with big bands and on radio and television in the Baltimore area during the 1950's. Mrs. Becker also joined the USO to entertain the troops, traveling to Europe, Saudi Arabia, Korea and Japan. Once her children arrived, Mrs. Becker devoted her time to her family. She filled their lives with fun, a sense of wonder, and unconditional love.The Beckers moved to Annapolis in 1962 and became sailing enthusiasts, both cruising and racing on the Chesapeake Bay for 3 decades. Mrs. Becker will be remembered for bringing music and laughter to that community and the lives she touched as she continued to sing and perform throughout her life. In 1996, she was named Ms. Senior Maryland and competed for the national title. Mrs. Becker also loved nature, animals and traveling on cruise ships.The Beckers moved to Bay Woods of Annapolis in 2003, where Mrs. Becker was grateful to have found many special new friendships. Her kindness, devotion to family, fun-loving spirit and genuine goodness will truly be missed. She is survived by her loving children, John Becker and Carolyn Becker-Hromalik; her son-in-law, Mark Hromalik; and her grandson, Michael. Visiting hours will be on Monday, July 1 from 10:30-11:45 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:45, at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. Interment at 1:00 PM at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA of Anne Arundel County, P.O. Box 3471, Annapolis, MD 21403.
