Chester Stewart Obituary

STEWART, CHESTER VICTOR "CHET," 80 years old, born in Lost City, WV on August 12, 1933, passed away November 9th after a lengthy illness. He graduated from Mathias WV High School and immediately enlisted in the US Army as a diesel mechanic, serving in Germany until 1955. Upon his return to WV he developed a door-to-door egg business, selling the WV eggs in MD; interstate government regulations ended this enterprise. In 1958 he married Patricia Harter and moved to Hyattsville, MD. They had 5 children. During this period he worked as a subcontractor for Sears and HH Kahn. In the later part of 1965 he began subcontracting for Medallion Industries, a heating and air conditioning contractor in Bowie that also had a division for storm windows and doors. It wasn't long before Lloyd Shelton, owner of Medallion Ind., offered him the Vice Presidency of the corporation. He was in that position until 1977 when he purchased the storm window and door business from Mr. Shelton and opened Stewart Window Service in Crofton, MD. As the business grew, siding was added to the services offered and the name changed to Stewart Window and Siding. He soon outgrew the name with the addition of roofing and construction and Stewart Enterprises LLC was born. Chet was a 29 year resident of Davidsonville. Chet's favorite pastime was fresh water fishing, especially for Bass. Other enjoyable pastimes included boating on the Chesapeake, fixing his 1957 Aqua blue Chevy Belair Convertible, and anything else that needed repairs. He also enjoyed flying immensely and had a Private Pilot's License. In 1984 he married Esperanza Corson and they bought their house in Davidsonville. Together they operated Stewart Enterprises LLC from their home. Due to his failing health and the state of the economy, the business was sold in October 2010. He is survived by his wife, Esperanza Stewart, of Holiday, FL, where he was to have moved on Nov. 2; brother Ralph Stewart of Bergton, VA; three sons, Rodney Stewart of Fredericksburg, VA, Leslie Stewart of Grottos, VA, and Bradley Stewart of Fayetteville, WV, and a step-son , Walter Corson of Chester, MD; two daughters, Pamela Stewart-Sperry of New Market, VA and Regina Hubble of Westminster, MD; ten grandchildren, Natasha, Whitney, Jarris, Theodore, Martin, Cara, Courtney, Erin, Drew, Hailey; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4002 53rd Street, Bladensburg, MD 20710 at 11 am on Friday November 15. In lieu of flowers offerings can be made to The Salvation Army. An online guestbook is available at www.kalasfuneralhomes.com

We have fond memories of talks with Chet while he was doing work on our home. Our favorite story, though, is about the time my parent's neighbor called him thinking that she needed a new roof. She soon heard noise from her roof and got a call from Chet (still on the roof) telling her she just needed a repair around an area with flashing. He was a good, honest man and will be missed.
