Darlene Athey Obituary

ATHEY, DARLENE MARIE, 61, of Odenton, MD died April 14 at Lorien Health Systems in Elkridge. Daughter of the late Tyras S. "Bunk" and Dorothy N. "Chick" Athey. Raised in Jessup, she attended Arundel Senior High School and Anne Arundel Community College. She retired from the State of MD, Dept. of Agriculture. Darlene was a passionate advocate for the humane treatment of animals. She loved everything about horses and cherished her pet cats. She enjoyed needlework, especially knitting and crocheting, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her brother Bryan Athey and wife Diana of Pasadena; her sister, Cathleen Pritchard and husband Joseph of Jessup; and nieces and nephews, Alexis, Bryan Jr., Gabrielle, Kailey, and Brandon. The family will receive visitors at the family owned Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Avenue, SW (at Crain Highway) Glen Burnie on Sunday, April 21st from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church in Jessup on Monday at 11 AM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403 or Days End Farm Horse Rescue, PO Box 309, Lisbon, MD 21765.
