David Siegert

David Lee Siegert, 69, a longtime resident of Davidsonville, died May 29 after battling cancer for almost two years. Born July 12, 1943 in Springfield, Ohio, David was the youngest son of Sheldon R. Siegert and Evelyn (nee Foster) Siegert Schwallenberg. David lived in the Annapolis and Davidsonville area and was raised by his grandparents, Edwin and Mary (Lida) (nee Rogers) Siegert. David and his grandfather participated in horse pulling contests at local fairs including Upper Marlboro, Gaithersburg, Timonium and Annapolis. After graduating from Annapolis High school in 1961, he worked as a carpenters' helper for his uncle, Louis Siegert. He worked for builder, Ralph Decker during the building of Gingerville. At the age of twenty four he joined the Army and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. Soon after returning home in March of 1968, he started his own business as a general contractor, D. L. Siegert Builders, Inc. In 1972 he served as a Delegate at the National Democratic Convention. He was a member of the VFW, Moose, Knights of Pythias and the Farm Bureau. David was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, half sister, Margo (nee Schwallenberg) Wilkes and half brother, Jay Kay Schwallenberg. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Siegert; daughter, Nichole Fleming of Annapolis; brother, Ray Siegert, (Elizabeth) of Purcellville, VA; two half brothers, Steven Siegert (Judy) of Mid Lothian , VA and Arthur Schwallenberg of Baltimore; half sister, Judith Schwallenberg; and step granddaughter, Michele Buhler (John) of Alexandria, VA.; extended family; Willis and MaryEllen Emory and family of King George, VA, Joyce Lester and Frank Lowman of Edgewater, and Alvin, Ginger, Trey, Abby and Ethan Sutphin of Davidsonville, and Norma Farr of Centerville. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8, Sunday, June 2, at Hardesty Funeral Home at 905 Galesville Road, Galesville, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday. Internment at Woodfield Cemetery in Galesville.
