LIBSON, ELIZABETH "BETTZE" (MCCOY), 61, of Annapolis, Md., passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 25, 2013, with her son and daughter by her side. Bettze was born on October 16, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of H. Franklin and Elizabeth Ann (Heron) McCoy. After graduating from Galena High School in Illinois, Bettze received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Western Illinois and her master's degree in dance from the University of Michigan. She went on to teach in the dance department at Wayne State University in Detroit. In the mid 1970's, Bettze moved to New York City where she danced professionally and toured internationally with the Pearl Lang Dance Theater. In 1979, Bettze married and moved to Annapolis where she brought her characteristic energy and enthusiasm to the City's arts community. She taught modern dance classes at the then recently opened Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Simultaneously, she worked at the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) in Baltimore, and subsequently in administration at Maryland Hall. In 1983, she left her position at Maryland Hall to devote time to her young family. In the late 1980's, she joined the Board of Directors of Ballet Theater of Annapolis (presently Ballet Theater of Maryland) and served as President from 1990-1993. In 1993, Bettze began teaching pre-school at the Key School in Annapolis, Md., where, for the next 18 years until her retirement in 2011, she was passionate about her students' educational development. Bettze was above all a loving, supportive mother, who devoted her life until her final moment to her children's happiness. She will be deeply missed and remembered forever by her children and her family. Her generosity of spirit, sparkling smile, hearty laugh and irrepressible sense of humor touched the lives of all of her friends and countless children and their parents. Her courage in facing her health adversities is an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Bradley Libson of Las Vegas, Nev., her daughter, Brittany Libson of Washington, D.C., two brothers, Marc (Michele) McCoy and Mike (Shelly) McCoy both of Galena, Ill., her nieces and nephews, Nate (Amy) McCoy of Galena, Ill., Emily (Mike) Jelinek of Naperville, Ill., Matt (Denise) McCoy of Savannah, Ga., Ryan (Amy) McCoy of Minneapolis, Minn., Bryan (Jolene) Bohnsack of Warren, Ill., B'Ann (Dan) Dittmar of Galena, Ill., Judy (Brandon) McCauley of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Karen Libson of Los Angeles, Calif. Her parents H. Franklin McCoy and Elizabeth Ann "B'Ann" McCoy, and her sister, B'Ann "Breeze" Bohnsack, preceded her in death. A memorial service in remembrance and celebration of Bettze will take place on June 1, 2013, at 4 p.m., at the Key School, located at 534 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis, Md.
